Soup Kitchen

The members and volunteers of the Vedanta Society of Toronto take part in regular Soup Kitchen activities. The Soup Kitchen was started in 2001 under the guidance of Swami Pramathananda. Initially this service was provided two days a month.

The number of sessions has steadily increased and now we provide this service nine days a month on all Tuesdays and Saturdays and a Thursday. The Soup Kitchen on Saturday offers a good opportunity for many working people and youth to participate in this activity.

In order to improve the quality of service a food inspector from the City of Toronto was invited to inspect the kitchen and food preparation even though we are not under the purview of any statutory regulation. The suggestions of the food inspector were implemented. Two of the members underwent a food handling course to maintain and improve the quality of the preparation and service.

Soup Kitchen service at SYME WOOLNER NEIGHBOURHOOD & FAMILY CENTRE, 2468 Eglinton Avenue West is proceeding well, serving soup, salad, bread and fruit to 50 people for a cost of $60 per session. A total of 6000 meals are served every year by 40 volunteers.

The Soup Kitchen activity is a great opportunity for volunteers as well as donors to serve God in a human being.
